Sustainability

Our sustainable practices include sourcing local produce, minimising food waste, and using sustainable packaging. Our food procurement strategy emphasises provenance and quality.

Sustainability

Local Sourcing & Provenance

We prioritise fresh, local ingredients wherever possible, building strong relationships with trusted suppliers who share our commitment to quality and sustainability. Our food procurement strategy emphasises provenance, traceability and value - supporting the local economy while reducing food miles.

Economic & Environmental Sustainability

We strive to deliver a service that is both environmentally responsible and financially sustainable. By balancing cost‑effectiveness with high standards of food quality, innovation and responsible purchasing, we ensure long‑term value for our schools and communities.

Shropshire Good Food Partnership

We are proud members of the Shropshire Good Food Partnership and supporters of the Good Food Charter, working with over 350 partners across the county to strengthen a local food system that is good for people, place and planet. Through this collaboration, and as part of the national Sustainable Food Places network, we contribute to a more resilient, fair and environmentally responsible food future for Shropshire.

Reporting & Transparency

We maintain clear, transparent records of our food procurement processes and track waste levels to support continual improvement and accountability.

Donation Programmes

To further reduce food waste, we partner with local charities and community organisations. This includes collaborations such as our work with Shrewsbury Food Hub, helping ensure surplus food is redistributed where it’s needed most.

Innovative Waste Reduction Initiatives

We are committed to exploring new ways to minimise waste and improve resource efficiency. This includes creative approaches to reuse, recycling and food‑waste education.

Composting & Biogas Production

We support schools in setting up composting areas for biodegradable food scraps, helping pupils learn how waste can be transformed into soil for their school gardens.

Eco-Friendly Practices

By using biodegradable or reusable packaging and utensils, we reduce plastic waste and encourage recycling. We also work with schools to educate pupils about environmentally conscious behaviours that extend beyond the dining room and into everyday life.
